Halloween holds a special place in my heart. It is one of those holidays that my family went all out for. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of sitting for hours while my Dad hand made our Halloween masks from liquid laytex, foam rubber, paper towels, and paint. Okay, maybe not so much the sitting still for hours part, but when we got to put those one of a kind costumes on and head out to terrorize the neighborhood and pillage for candy - that was the best! My mom always decorated the house to the rafters and made the whole evening fun. These traditions are things that I have always wanted to carry on with my family, and now that the boys are getting older, we finally have a chance to start! The liquid laytex may have to wait a few years, but that's not going to stop us from having a good time!
The pumpkin patch on Sauvie's Island is one of my favorite places in the whole world. We didn't get to go last year because the boys were only about two weeks old - no way they would appreciate the hay ride yet - so I was doubly excited for this year! We had so much fun wandering around the farm, looking at animals, and eating the yummy food! Then it was time for the hay ride out to the pumpkin patch. Michael was mesmerized by all the sights and sounds along the way, but the bumps and jolts of the tractor did not appeal so much to Tommy! Once we got to the patch, both boys were in pumpkin heaven! They had no idea what these big orange balls covering the ground were, but it was clear that they wanted to play with every single one of them!
I couldn't get them to look up at me for a single picture - they were way too pre-occupied with the pumpkins.
I could almost hear the "Mooommmm - stop taking pictures and leave us alone!" Or maybe that was flashbacks from my own childhood! ;) Each of us picked out a pumpkin and we headed home for the day with some very happily worn out boys!
